Lif from Red Hill: 14 year old mare out of Roskur (Canada) and Lilja. Her breeder is
Niels West. USIHC registration is US9620048.
Lif is a taller than average palomino mare. (DNA test confirms her color – current
registration is grey, which is incorrect). She has spent most of her life as a brood mare.
One of her sons (Ljoskur) was evaluated at a young horse event last fall and received
very good comments. He is now owned by Kathie Lockerbie.
When Lif was purchased from Niels, she had received no training and had not been
handled much. After Ljoskur was born, she was sent to Dawn Shaw for a couple months
of training. (~2008) Dawn reports having few issues with Lif. She was ridden out alone
and did fairly well – considering she was 10 years old at the time. Since that time, she
has again been primarily used as a brood mare.
Lif is a shy mare, but easy to handle. She loads, stands for the farrier with no issues and
tolerates most things (except fly spray). I use a cream on her, which she doesn’t seem
to mind.
Lif bred to Svartbakur (listed below). Her 2011 foal is included in her purchase. Offered
at $4,800.00

Svartbakur frá Holum: 14 year old, 5 gaited stallion out of
Hrafn 802 (honors stallion) and Kria fra Laekjamoti (1st prize
mare). His breeder is Magnus Larusson. Svartbakur's USIHC
registration is US1996101805, his Icelandic registration is
IS96158310.
I purchased Svartbakur in Iceland when he was 3 years old. He
was initially trained in Iceland by Knutur and Magnus. He was
imported in 2001 when he was 5. Svartbakur was trained at
Gauksmyri in Northern Iceland, where he was used on a few
mares before export. Several of his offspring have been
evaluated in Iceland and received 1st prize.
Many of his offspring here in the US have been evaluated also
(both full and young horse). His offspring are primarily 5
gaited and share a lot of attributes: they have large fluid
movements, excellent backs and wonderfull temperaments.
Joi (owner of Gauksmyri along with Magnus’ sister) told me in
2006, that if Svartbakur was still in Iceland he would be using
him exclusively. Two of his mares out of Svartbakur went 1st
prize within a year of our conversation.
Barbara F. evaluated several of Svartbakur's sons and
daughters last fall at the Washington Young Horse Evaluations
and she told me that though she had never seem my horse,
she could tell he was an excellent stallion based on the quality
of his offspring. See the USHIC Quarterly Q1 2010 and Tolt
News (March 2010) for additional comments.
Svartbakur is an absolute joy to ride. Young kids can ride him,
he’s very steady and willing to do whatever is asked of him.
His gaits are huge and clean – all 5 of them, and he has no
bad habits at all. None. This guy is easy to work with in any
situation and is an amazing horse. One of the best in the
US. Offered at $18,000.00 Firm
